Watch: For Veterans Day, ‘America’s Funniest Videos’ Released Must-See 79-Second Tribute To Soldiers

It is Veterans Day 2015, and Yahoo TV snagged an America’s Funniest Videos compilation to honor this special day.  Editor-in-Chief Kristin Baldwin selected the patriotic montage of veterans coming home from active duty to pull out the laughter through your tears as you watch the whole thing here.

Originally called “Armistice Day,” Nov. 11 was first officially designated a legal holiday by Congress in 1938 and was intended to honor the veterans of World War I.

In 1954, Congress decided that Nov. 11 should be a day to honor all veterans and renamed “Armistice Day” as “Veterans Day.” In 1968, the holiday was moved to Mondays like other holidays, which provided for a four-day weekend. In 1975, President Gerald Ford moved the day back to the original date of Nov. 11.

Veterans Day differs from Memorial Day in that Veterans Day honors living veterans while Memorial Day honors those who have died.

We salute you, veterans, on this Veterans Day. Thank you for your service. We value the sacrifices you make, the sacrifices you have made, and the service that you have performed for your country. Without you, the world would be a much more dangerous place. You are the first line of defense against tyranny, genocide, and in some cases, hunger and natural disasters. We honor you, fine men and women, on this your special day.

As we salute our veterans today, we also salute our fallen soldiers. ABC News honored their memory with a story about Kenneth Spilman, who frequented Arlington Cemetery to pay tribute to the heroes buried there. (On a personal note, this author’s grandfather, Kenneth Williams, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John R. Craig.  KC Williams, whose friends called him “Casey,” passed away on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 1993.)
