In a move, which some may consider surprising, The View co-host Joy Behar came to the defense of Carly Fiorina on Wednesday’s program.
The group was discussing a recent Hillary Clinton campaign event when a supporter in the crowd (who lost his job at Hewlett Packard while Fiorina was CEO) told the candidate that, “Every time I see her on TV, I want to reach through and strangle her.”
Clinton laughed, along with the many others in the room, and said, “I wouldn’t mess with you.”
After various co-hosts expressed different sides on the issue, with some seeming to believe that Clinton was simply reading the room, Joy Behar jumped into the discussion.
“Let’s be fair,” Behar said. “If somebody had said that to Donald Trump and he had laughed, we would be ripping him a new one and she did not — she should have stood up to him. I’m sorry, I have to say that.”
Paul Farris agreed with Behar, adding that Clinton should stand up for the “only other female” running for president. She noted earlier in the discussion, “I think every politician, especially, we’re talking about violence against a woman. We’re talking about strangling a woman here. You’re talking about strangling a woman.”
As reported by Western Journalism, Fiorina appeared on The View last Friday, after Behar and others and joked about her facial expressions during the third Republican presidential debate. Co-host Michelle Collins had called the candidate’s expression “demented,” while Behar likened it to a “Halloween mask.”
Behar told the candidate that she is an equally opportunity comic, going after Democrat and Republican, alike. “I don’t understand why any politician is exempt from my comedic jokes,” she said. The co-host, at least in this instance, appears to be an equal opportunity in calling out inappropriate behavior, as well.
