Facebook is testing a new caller ID app for Android to give users more information about who is on the other end of the line.
Dubbed Hello, the app permits users to see who is calling, block unwanted calls and search for people and places as well as link friends’ phone numbers with their Facebook profiles.
“When you get a call, Hello will show you info about who’s calling you, even if you don’t have that number saved in your phone,” said Facebook product manager Andrea Vaccari. “You will only see info that people have already shared with you on Facebook.”
“With Hello, people will only see info they could otherwise find on Facebook,” he added.
Hello, after searching for a person or business on Facebook, enables users to call them with a tap of the finger.
Using the app, it is also easy to block unwanted calls. In settings, users have the option of blocking specific numbers and can even adjust if they wish to automatically blocks calls from commonly blocked numbers. Blocked calls will go straight to voicemail and can be reviewed by the user in recent calls.
The app can also be used as an information resource such as finding a new restaurant, learning its business hours, getting directions to it and even making a reservation.
Hello, a Facebook Creative Labs app, is available for download in the Play Store.
