Ever wanted to visit the Star Plucking Tower or the White Gold Splendid Palace?
Well, now you can…
A $2.5 million tourism campaign to bring more Chinese to the United Kingdom has produced some funny new monikers for 101 landmarks, and events.
British tourism agency VisitBritain ran a 10-week-long social media contest on WeChat and Weibo, and received 13,000 suggestions from the Chinese public.
By giving these famous attractions a Mandarin name, the aim is to double the number of Chinese visitors to the UK by 2020. Nearly 200,000 already Chinese travel to the UK each year, spending around $770 million.
