Your Reputation Precedes You…NetClarify Can Help!

By Tracy Shank, Marketing Director
You are applying for jobs, and as you know, your potential employer is going to research the heck out of you before the company spends the money to train you and employ you. Whether they friend you on Facebook, can see your public profile, ask for your social media passwords or use one of their other secret ways of finding out information, the chances are that your Facebook profile will be front-and-center of their research.

So What Do They Want To See?What Do Employers Want To See On Your Facebook

There are a lot of things that an employer may count as a strike against you on Facebook: drinking and drug references or pictures, lewd photos or terminology, and racial and other ethnic slurs are the obvious. The not quite as obvious are grammar issues and continuously negative comments. But what would make them happy?

Pages

Like pages or join groups that represent a professional organization to which you belong or a charity to which you support. Another type of page an employer would like to see is one that lets them know you care about your reputation and how it reflects on others…like the company you could be working for!

That is why we think that once you run a NetClarify report to make sure you have removed all of the inappropriate material from your Facebook before an employer searches you, you like us too to let your potential employers know you are serious about maintaining a professional reputation.

Posts

Be positive in your posts. Come across as an ingenious problem-solver is a plus, but not necessary. Just speaking about things in an optimistic, motivated way is enough for an employer to glimpse you as an asset to the team.

Photos

Photos of you with the professional organization or charity you support on your pages will enforce that you are an active member here. Further, any photo that shows you winning an award, acting professionally or showcases your other prized traits (like thoughtful friend or loving family member) will generally be acceptable.
