(Before It's News)

Most people think that all the online schools are of the same type. But there are vast differences between different types of e-schools. Some schools are for-profit whereas some other schools provide quality online education for free. However, some not-for-profit schools are not accredited and their degrees hold no value. The same is true for for-profit online schools as well. If you get your degree from an unaccredited school, you will simply waste your time and money. For your further reference, here below are four types of schools that offer online degree programs.

Private online schools

These schools are not generally monitored by the government and programs offered by these colleges are generally the most expensive among all online courses. Reputable private schools online offer courses that are accredited by regional councils. These colleges provide ample opportunities for student-mentor interaction, access to course materials and maintain transparency.  Even if you don’t have any budgetary constraint, you should comare these courses carefully as unaccredited colleges are considered bad investments in the US job market. Don’t forget to check out the costs in full before enrolling.

Public Online Schools

Public online schools that cater mainly to minor students are run by different regional school districts. These are government funded and operated schools that meet the basic requirements as defined by the regional accrediting councils. As of the trust factor is concerned, these schools are most reliable. However, not many public schools in the region offer higher education and you may need to look for other options if the school near you does not offer the degree program you are looking for online.

Charter schools online

Online Learning

Charter schools online are mostly run by public money and offer mostly primary and secondary education. If you are looking for online degree programs after getting your high school certificate, you may skip this section. For your reference, these schools are considered not-for-profit schools as they cannot charge tuitions. Moreover, admission in these schools is mostly lottery based. Charter schools online are often outperformed by online public schools.

University controlled online schools

University controlled online school

This is the predominant form of online schools in the USA. With days passing, more and more universities (almost all the major universities are in the list) are including online degree programs in the list of courses they offer. Some schools like University of California are extending their departments to accommodate this new form of educating whereas some are operating within traditional setups. However, when you are choosing an online course offered by a university, checking their accreditation status is important.
