Samsung Electronics (OTCMKTS:SSNLF) today in New York unveiled its first major smartphone since the recall last year of its explosive Note 7.
After the debacle last year clearly a lot is riding on this latest release for the brand.
The phone will reportedly be released on April 21 and they are not going to be that cheap.
The standard S8 will cost about $750 and the larger S8 Plus will be about $850 – both around $100 more than comparable iPhones and rival Android phones.
The S8 handset also features a voice assistant intended to rival Siri and Google Assistant.
The group’s Note 7 smartphone was involved in dozens of fires and explosions worldwide and last October the group confirmed it was killing it off.
In discontinuing it, Samsung followed the advice of many analysts who saw it as a lost cause, and who argued that the company’s priority should be protecting the rest of its brand.
