According to reports from eScan, a new mobile malware has been detected on Google Play Store. The malicious app, Adult Player pretends to be a regular porn app, but it secretly takes photographs of users and then blackmails for a hefty ransom.
The Adult Player looks like a normal pornography app, but when it’s installed and accessed on user’s device, it secretly clicks photographs using the front-facing camera of the handset. As soon as the photographs are clicked, it transfers sensitive information to remote servers belonging to the developers of this malicious application. Once data transmission is complete, it locks down the phone, and threatens the user to pay a ransom amount of $500 via PayPal for protection of personal and professional data. It claims to leak private data if the amount is not paid as soon as possible.
As of now, the malicious app was removed from Google Play Store. But since, ransomware is on the rise, eScan has suggest some valuable tips to keep your handsets safe and secure.
