In last few months, Chinese Tablet PC manufacturer, Chuwi has performed extremely well with its improved range of dual boot tablets. The company has launched some powerful tablets with a nice set of specs, and has once again unveiled a top-tier product boasting dual boot capabilities. The new Hi8 is company’s third dual boot eight-inch tablet, and has been designed specifically to deliver glitch-free performance with an open ecosystem complimented with Windows 10 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Chuwi Hi8 brings some major upgrades over its predecessor, and after giving a detailed look to this device, here is what we have to say about it-
Design and Build
In terms of design, Chuwi Hi8 feels pretty good to handle and one of the hot selling tablet pcs can be found on Gearbest.com. The device follows the same design language as Vi8 and features a nicely crafted plastic body with a metal band running along its sides. Its weight has been reduced to 306 grams, and edges have been trimmed to give a nice grip while carrying around. On whole, this dual boot tablet looks much more than a standard device available around 100 bucks.
Display
One of the biggest elements packed with Chuwi Hi8 is its improved display. The powerful budget tablet features a nice visual experience with its 8-inch WUXGA display enriched with 283 pixels per inch. It looks very sharp, and delivers accurate and punchy colors from all angles. Vivid color production is its major highlight, and you simply cannot mark any downside of its powerful IPS panel. Windows scaling on this device is kept at 150% by default.
Hardware and Performance
On the hardware front, Chuwi Hi8 powers up by an Intel Z3736F processor with four cores clocked at 2.16GHz, coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM. It handles heavy apps effectively, and offers additional support for expansion up to 64GB via micro-SD card. Whether you’re running demanding games, browsing on web, or streaming online, the performance of this device will always stay right on the mark. It does not heats a lot and performs just like an ideal tablet with dual boot capabilities.
Software
As for software, Chuwi Hi8 brings best user-experience with Android 4.4 KitKat and Windows 8 operating system. It comes with one year subscription of Office 365 and performs much better than standard Windows based devices. The device will upgrade officially to Windows 10, but not to mention, it will eat too much space.
For switching to Android, you just have to touch the Android icon in Windows. Within a minute, boot up process will get complete, and once it’s done, you cannot tell whether it’s a regular or a dual-boot tablet.
Camera
In terms of camera capabilities, Chuwi Hi8 features a decent ecosystem with a 2-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. The camera setup of the tablet is the same one from a cheap tablet, and is not suitable for those who love photography or selfies. The main camera of the device lacks LED flash and autofocus, while the front-facing is completely horrible with low pixel count.
Battery
The 4000mAh battery equipped with Chuwi Hi8 performs decently, and holds sufficient amount of charge throughout the day. It’s a nice pick for a user with standard requirements, and can easily give sufficient backup with brightness around 50%. So, here goes our review for the new Chuwi Hi8. The dual-boot tablet packs a real punch with its performance, and brings some major upgrades over its predecessor. It a nice pick for budget buyers, but still, Chuwi has a lot to do with camera and hardware capabilities of its devices.
