If you though that this year is the year for virtual reality games to sweep you off your feet, you have another thing coming. The gaming world’s annual marquee show, E3 which was expected to deliver quality games and the hopefully exciting news was a huge fallout. It’s evident that the headsets are eye-catching and people are interested in their works. However, it lacks games, which makes players twice about buying it. The E3 was expected to be a good platform for positive VR news but has failed to live up to the expectation of the consumers are here are the reasons why.
Sony Fails to Deliver
Sony was far from perfecting its headset’s resolution and was said to be muddy and jagged among its competitors. Sony had announced some seriously alluring titles to its gaming lists such as Final Fantasy XV VR add-on, Resident Evil 7 VR-compatible, and Arkham VR, at the pre-show. But despite its huge hype, Sony did not deliver the promised quality that virtual reality targets, leaving its fans disappointed and disheartened.
Oculus Impresses
The biggest competitor of Sony, Oculus was doing remarkably well where Sony failed. They were able to nail the resolution that a typical VR needed to impress its players. Oculus come up with a number of games that were both creative and polished. However, the drawback with Oculus comes with its motion controllers which need to go a mile to catch up with the rest of the crowd. They are yet to announce a solid date on the release of Touch Controllers for the Rift, which is a set-back on expecting more VR-based action on their part as far as 2016 is concerned.
HTC- Missing from Action!
So where did HTC go amidst all this chaos? Apparently, HTC had a booth set up to showcase its recent developments such as mixed reality and was also providing good demos of its games, which were significantly well-done. But, it was also noticeable that this was missing from action at Bethesda Software’s booth which showcased Vive experiences. The worst part is that Giant Cop which was expected to launch at Vive will be launching on Rift first. Ouch! When asked regarding this, O’Brian, VP of HTC’s VR stated that many games with bigger titles were in the making and will take some time to hit the market. After all, quality VR cannot be created within a short period.
The E3 was a big opportunity for Virtual Reality to become a success. But the big brands fell short of delivering to the expectations of the gamers with Sony’s underperformance, Oculus’ release date unknown and HTC losing a game.
