NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) had issued a notice (returnable in four weeks) to Union Home Secretary, seeking a report on merciless thrashing and stripping of a youth by the jawans belonging to BSF (Border Security Force) in the outpost of Charmurasi border near the Indo Bangladesh border in the Mushirabad district of West Bengal recently.
The National Human Rights Commission was acting suo motu, based on the media reports and observed that if the reports were true than it raised a sober issue on violation of human rights of the victim.
The video that had been telecast by a local TV channel showed that the youth, allegedly a cattle rustler from Bangladesh, was tied to a bamboo staff and was assaulted by 4 Border Security Force personnel with lathis. The video showed the youth worming in pain on the ground as he was beaten by the jawans without any mercy.
Following the incident the Border Security Force authorities suspended 8 of its personnel.
