JK Minister Peerzada quits over examgate
Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed resigned on Friday from the Omar Abdullah-led government after the Crime Branch of J & K Police found alleged irregularities in the answer sheets of his foster son. Imran Sauban, son of Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed had passed his class 10th exam in 2009 allegedly with the help of Board of School Education officials.
Peerzada said to media, “I have resigned from the council of ministers. I have forwarded my resignation to the party high command. It is their decision now to decide on it. I do not want to create problems for the party.” As the controversy came in light, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah ordered for an inquiry.
Earlier, Peerzada had to resign while he was in Ghulam Nabi Azad’s government because of allegations of corruption. He had quit in Jan 2008 for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 40,000 from an independent MLA Shoaib Lone.
Chief Minister had said that the Minister Sayeed was not involved but on the other hand also said his fate would be decided in the next 24 hours. The Crime Branch, which probed the answer-paper scandal, submitted the report to the government and also identified three officials allegedly involved in this case.
