Less than a week after the collision of two passenger trains in Semnan province that nearly 50 were killed and more than 100 wounded,
people of Tabriz, Urmia express sympathy with train collision victims
Security forces even began arresting those taking part in this gathering. Aziz Pourvalie, a known political activist in Iran’ Azerbaijan region, was among those arrested. More than 10 security agents were present at the scene where he was arrested, transferring him to an unknown location afterward.
Security forces and the police prevented any similar gathering in other areas of Tabriz.
A group of people in the city of Urmia (northwest Iran) held a vigil on Sunday, November 27th, expressing their sympathy with the families of the Semnan (east of Tehran) train collision victims, according to reports received from inside Iran. This train was headed from Tabriz to Mashhad (from northwest to northeast Iran).
The number of people in this gathering continued to grow very quickly. At 7:30 pm the atmosphere in the area was reported to be very intense, with numerous security agents stationed nearby.
The regime’s repressive forces, however, raided the scene in response and resorted to force, making the mourners disperse. The last reports indicate this call made by the people of Urmia and Tabriz was welcomed extensively despite all the measures taken by security forces.
