North Korea's test of a hydrogen bomb Wednesday morning at a site in the northern part of the country sparked denunciations from around the world. A spokesman for the White House National Security Council said his country condemns every violation of UN Security Council resolutions and will not accept North Korea as a nuclear state. He added that Washington will continue its defense of South Korea and other US allies in East Asia, and “will respond appropriately to any and all North Korean provocations.”
South Korean President Park Geun-hye denounced the test as ”an act that threatens our lives and future,” while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said “We absolutely cannot allow this.” Even China, North Korea's only friend in the region, criticized Pyongyang's act, with foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying saying Beijing “strongly opposes” the test and that North Korea should “stop any action which could worsen the situation.”
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
