DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. March 23, 2017, 3:28 PM (IDT)
It was revealed on Thursday afternoon that the Israel Police has arrested a 19-year-old Israeli who is suspected of sending fake bomb threats to Jewish institutions in many countries, including the US, using advanced technology to conceal his identity. The police's cyber unit cracked the case in cooperation with FBI investigators and Interpol officers who spent the last few weeks in Israel. The young man is suspected of sending dozens of bomb threats to Jewish and Israeli institutions around the world, causing panic as well as stopping all activities at those institutions, inflicting financial losses, and even halting flights and forcing emergency landings. A search of the suspect's home was said to have found technological means that helped him make the threats, but will now be used against him in court. The motive for making the threats remains unclear.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
