DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. March 11, 2017, 11:29 PM (IDT)
Turkish troops surrounded the Dutch embassy and consulates Saturday, while Dutch police cordoned off the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam and the government announced that the Dutch ambassador to Ankara would stay home on extended leave. This exchange came after Turkey's Family Affairs Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya was blocked by Dutch police from entering the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam. She was surrounded by police as she stepped out of her car. Pro-Turkish protesters gathered outside the consulate in Rotterdam, waving flags.
Kaya arrived in the Netherlands overland hours after the Dutch authorities denied Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu permission to land when he refused to abstain from political activity during his visit. He threatened retaliation and accused the Dutch of fascism and Nazi behavior.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
