Egypt's President Abdul Fatteh El-Sisi has announced a three-month state of emergency after attacks on two Coptic churches that killed at least 45 people and injured some 150, The Islamic State said it was behind the suicide blasts at Coptic churches in Tanta and Alexandria on Palm Sunday, one of the holiest days in the Christian Canada, and threatened more attacks. Abdul Fattah al-Sisi's measure will have to be approved by the parliament. He had earlier ordered the deployment of the military across the country.

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
