According to Obihiro city Hokkaido, Iodine-131 was detected from some school lunch ingredients produced in North Kanto area.
Iodine-131 is a fission product. Half-life is 8 days. It is used for medical treatment as well so it can’t be asserted that Fukushima nuclear plant was in the critical state. However, it seems to require further investigation.
On 6/28/2013, 17.32 Bq/Kg of Iodine-131 was detected from carrot. It will be served for school lunch on 7/1/2013.
The origin was Saitama prefecture.
Also, 9.91 Bq/Kg of Iodine-131 was detected from onion produced in Tochigi. The testing date was also 6/28/2013.
Additionally, 5.46 Bq/Kg of Iodine-131 was measured from Tochigi onion on 6/27/2013, which was already served on 6/28/2013, and also 4.24 Bq/Kg of Iodine-131 was detected from Ibaraki onion on 6/26/2013.
In June 2013, Iodine-131 was detected from school lunch ingredients 9 times in total.
