According to Ministry of the Environment, extremely radioactive piece of debris was found in the dry river bed of Naraha machi Fukushima. Naraha machi is in in only 7 km south from Fukushima nuclear plant but Japanese government is preparing to lift the evacuation order in this area. Former residents can enter the dry river bed in day time.
The piece of debris was found on 6/20/2013. It’s brown and fragile. It’s not known what it is but Ministry of the Environment assumes it may be related to the hydrogen explosions. They took it to Fukushima nuclear plant for the investigation.
The size is 3cm × 1.5cm × 0.5cm. The surface dose is 105 μSv/h of γ, 3,400 μSv/h of γ and β (100,000 CPM). The γ dose of 30cm away from the substance is 23 μSv/h, the β dose of 30cm away from the substance is 26 μSv/h.
On 7/2/2013, another piece of the substance was found in the same area. The radiation level was the same.
