(Before It's News)

The researching group of Kyoto university found the earthquake of 311 triggered subsidence in 5 volcanos in eastern Japan by using the date from satellite radar and the Global Positioning System. (Akita-komagatake, Kurikoma, Zao, Azuma, Nasu)

They assume it was because the magma reservoir was stretched. This was also seen in Maule earthquake in Chile (2/27/2010, M8.8).

The volcanic regions subsided by 5~15 cm. It forms elliptical depressions with horizontal dimensions of up to 15–20 km in each.

The researching team concluded volcanos were affected by the great earthquake even though they didn’t erupt or cause earthquake swarms.

The report was published on Nature geoscience on 6/30/2013.
