Unidentified creature was mass-generated in one of the bypass wells to stop pumping up groundwater, Tepco announced on 10/21/2014.
The creature looks like algae.
Tepco is pumping up groundwater from the bypass wells to discharge to the Pacific. On 10/15/2014, they found the creature was mixed with the pumped water, which Tepco describes “great quantity”.
Tritium density was 760,000 Bq/m3 on 10/9/2014, which was the previous analysis of the detection of the creature. It was 710,000 Bq/m3 on 10/16/2014, which was the next analysis of the detection. All β nuclides to include Sr-90 was under detectable level, Cs-134/137 density wasn’t reported.
Though they found the creature on 10/15/2014, they didn’t announce it until 10/21/2014. Tepco states it is because they focused on restarting the well as soon as possible and considered the countermeasures. However the specific details of the creature haven’t been announced.
