On 12/17/2014, Tepco leaked 6 t of contaminated water to the environment.
They report it was water processed by ALPS (Advanced Liquid Processing System). The leakage occurred when water was transferred from ALPS to a storage tank.
From Tepco’s announcement, the operators made a wrong process documents on pipe connections to flow the contaminated water to an open pipe.
The leaked contaminated water was absorbed by soil or retained in a trench. They estimate the leaked volume was 6 t.
Tepco states the latest radioactive analysis shows all β nuclide density (containing Sr-90) was 89,000 ~ 120,000 Bq/m3.
They don’t report the density of any other nuclides.
By 12/18/2014, they collected 9 m3 of contaminated water mixed with rainfall and 5.7 m3 of soil.
Tepco says it didn’t flow to the sea but they are not taking contaminated water absorbed by soil into consideration.
