In today's NTD China News, four Chongqing policemen face trial over the cover up of the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. Meanwhile, state-run Xinhua News agency reports that Gu Kailai confessed to Heywoods murder during her trial on Thursday in Hefei city. 16 people are dead after Typhoon Haikui sweeps through eastern China. Severe damage to infrastructure to agriculture have been reported. Free Tibet reports the third self-immolation protest by a Tibetan in China this week. 24 year old Joba from southwestern Sichuan province survived but is in a serious condition. Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeoh breaks his silence on the detention of a Taiwanese citizen Chung Ting-pang in China. Ma's statement –53 days after Chung was placed under residential surveillance–has been criticized though, for not calling directly on Chinese authorities to free Chung. China's export and import figures for July take a dive, fueling fears of more economic woes amidst slowing global demands and sluggish internal conditions. A proposed deal by China's Wanxiang Group Corporation to purchase US battery maker A123 Systems raises concerns. Chinese people are hitting the gyms, inspired by the London Olympics.
