Zenit St Petersburg break the bank, splashing out a record $100 million for football stars Hulk and Witsel… Full Story: Brazil striker Hulk and Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel have both joined Zenit St Petersburg for a record breaking $100 million. The Russian champions paid $50 million for each player, with both signing a 5 year contract. Hulk joins Zenit from Portuguese club Porto, whilst Witsel signs from Benfica, also a Portuguese team. The two players are Zenit's first major signings in the summer transfer window, which remains open in Russia for another week. Hulk helped Porto to win three Portuguese league titles and the 2011 Europa League trophy, after joining from the Japanese J League in 2008. Both new signings will be eligible to play in the Champions League, where Zenit have been drawn alongside AC Milan, Anderlecht and Malaga. Zenit, who are backed by Russian energy giant Gazprom, have also been linked with a $40 million bid for the Manchester United winger Nani.
