Supercharged 2015 C7 Corvette Z06

Chevrolet has announced the most track-capable Corvette in the history of the car. The 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 is offering new performance for this year. The power behind the Vette is coming from the LT4 engine which is just an inch taller than the LT1. The LT4 is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing “at least” 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque. The engine is fitted with an integrated 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger and intercooler with the blower spinning beyond that of the ZR1 of 15,000 with this one going up to 20,000 rpm. It also utilizes shorter rotors to get up to speed more quickly. Some other features include the Active Fuel Management to help keep gas mileage on par as well as with a dry-sump oil system that has a larger capacity than that of the Stingray’s Z51 package.

New for the Z06 this year is the choice of transmissions. A choice between a seven-speed manual or the all-new 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. This conventional automatic with a torque converter with four gearsets and five clutches, and it’s lighter than the six-speed in the Stingray within the same space. Chevrolet states that the “wide-open-throttle upshifts executed up to eight-hundredths of a second quicker than the dual-clutch in the Porsche 911.” The ones that still want the “track” feel, the seven-speed manual will be fitted with a new dual-mas flywheel and dual-disc clutch.

Using the aluminum frame from the Corvette Raicing C7.R, the C7 Corvette Z06 will have some differences than the standard C7 Corvette Stingray. Cooling dictates flared fender, larger vents and wider wheels and tires. The tires are actually 1.5-inches wider in the front and 2.0-inches wider in the back than those on the Stingray. The car itself will be 2.2-inches wider in front and 3.15 inches wider in the back. These dimensions actually make the taillights have actually been pushed three inches further apart.

A Z07 package will also be available which will get you Pilot Sport Cup tires for enhanced gripping, Brembo’s carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that will help improve braking performance and contribute to greater handling and to reduce weight. This package also adds unique components for true aerodynamic downforce. The Z07 equipped car has already recorded faster track times than even the ZR1.

The C7 Corvette Z06 will go on sale in early 2015. These cars are expected to begin being built at the end of 2014 and arrive at your local Chevrolet Dealership at the first quarter of 2015.
