The Republican National Committee alleges Harry Reid’s tirades against the Koch brothers on the Senate floor and use of congressional resources to attack Republicans have “crossed the line.” As a result, the RNC has filed an ethics complaint against the majority leader with the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
“Harry Reid is so dirty and so unethical that some of these things have to happen — you have to put a marker down,” chairman Reince Priebus told Fox News about the RNC’s decision to take action.
Inspired by a similar letter put forward by the Louisiana GOP, the complaint states that Reid has violated Senate Rule No. 2, which states senators cannot use taxpayer-funded resources and services for political and partisan purposes. But the RNC alleges that Reid is using Senate official websites and his office’s Twitter account to go after Republicans, the Koch brothers, and others.
Even though the Senate committee is chaired by California Democrat Barbara Boxer, Priebus vowed to push ahead in order to address the problem.
“We’re going to take it as far as we can in order to make sure that people understand this guy will stop at nothing to lie to the American people,” he said.
