Sacrificing the English Language to Political Correctness
Civilization is held aloft above the primordial slime by many pillars, each of them crucial in their own way. Progressives methodically swing sledgehammers at all of them. One pillar is language. Progressives aspire to degrade and destroy it, thereby impeding not only our capacity to communicate, but to think. We’ve seen this in the liberal media. We can also see it in education:
[University of Wisconsin–Madison junior Erika] Gallagher, a Posse scholar, began her research during her time as an undergraduate Writing Fellow this semester. She said she realized, as she sat in her seminar class of predominantly white students, that she wanted to focus on standard written English and how it excludes marginalized groups.
“I want to center the voices of the people who need to be centered,” Gallagher said.
It seems “marginalized” (i.e., politically favored) groups cannot be “centered” (given precedence over regular Americans) if we insist of maintaining the rules of proper English.
Pernicious academics have invented the term “code switching” to describe the allegedly oppressive phenomenon of blacks speaking proper English instead of gibbering ungrammatically like prison inmates.
Gallagher … talked to UW-Madison student leaders from marginalized groups and asked how they felt about code switching. She said all three “overwhelmingly” said it felt oppressive…
Gallagher said she hopes to develop her research into a nonprofit organization that “teaches teachers to teach,” with the goal that educators will eventually express disclaimers at the start of each semester that state they will accept any form of English that students are comfortable with.
No more grading down English papers that read like rap lyrics.
The short-term goal is a Tower of Babel, with our language fractured into dialects, none of which is to be regarded as proper English. Splintering America apart into groups that do not understand each other will help to exacerbate the alienation that is key to destroying a society through cultural Marxism.
The long-term goal, for those who have thought it through, must be for us to degenerate to the point of grunting like animals. By then we will probably ambulate on all fours, and consume our government-issued gruel straight from the common trough without using our hands.
