Iran Warns against Catastrophic Situation in Yemen
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned against the tragic humanitarian situation in Yemen due to the continued Saudi aggressions against the Arab country, and said Iran and the UN are in consultation to find ways to put an end to the calamity of the Yemeni people.
“This tragedy has been caused due to the siege of Yemen and continued Saudi-led airstrikes on that country; under such conditions the Islamic Republic of Iran has done many consultations with the UN to put an end to this human tragedy,” Amir Abdollahian said, addressing a meeting of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on Tuesday.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined that the problems created in the region do not have a military solution, “rather they should be resolved through dialogue and talks”.
In relevant remarks earlier today, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi warned of the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen, and called for the international community’s efforts to end the catastrophe.
Sarmadi made the remarks in a meeting with the outgoing Hungarian envoy to Tehran..
During the meeting, he reviewed the latest developments in the Middle-East region, specially in Yemen, and called on the international community, specially the EU, to increase efforts to end the crisis in the war-hit Arab country.
Elsewhere, Sarmadi referred to the good and age-old relations between Iran and Hungary, and underscored the necessity for strengthening bilateral ties in different aspects and within the framework of mutual cooperation and cooperation with the EU.
Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 90 days now to restore fugitive president Mansour Hadi to power, a close ally of Riyadh.
