On Wednesday afternoon the organization released six documents purportedly from Brennan’s email. There was no indication the documents had come from his email. At least one had been previously published in full.
The CIA director’s personal email account was compromised on Monday, allegedly by a teenager who accessed it by retrieving answers to security questions through social engineering.
The perpetrator told the New York Post that the emails contain sensitive CIA information, as Brennan would occasionally forward himself emails from his work account, leaving documents attached.
Grasswire could not independently confirm the identity of the individual sourced in the Post report. But in an online chat with a Grasswire editor, the individual claimed to have also compromised the Comcast email account of White House Deputy National Security Advisor Avril Haines.
