Turkish warplanes shoot down military jet near Turkish-Syrian border – YouTube
Turkey has shot down a Russian military plane on the border with Syria.
Ankara says two warplanes approached its border with Syria and were warned before one of them was shot down by Turkish fighters jets. It added that Turkey has information showing its airspace had been repeatedly violated. But the Russian Defense Ministry says the fighter jet was downed by artillery fire and can prove that the aircraft was over Syria for the whole flight. Both pilots parachuted out of the jet before it crashed. One of the pilots has been captured by anti-Damascus militants. Russian helicopters are currently searching the area. The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said that the warplane crashed in the Turkmen Mountains region in the coastal province of Latakia. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has ordered the Foreign Ministry to consult with NATO and the UN on the latest developments.
