How Did Donald Trump Open Up a 20-Point Lead on His GOP Rivals?
When Donald Trump entered the crowded Republican presidential field, not many pundits thought he would be the frontrunner heading into Christmas.
But according to the latest national CNN-ORC poll, Trump not only leads the field, but he has now widened his lead to 20 points over his nearest competitor.
Trump garnered 36% support in the survey, taken Nov. 27 to Dec. 1, with Ted Cruz in second place at 16%, Ben Carson at 14% and Marco Rubio at 12%.
In the same survey, 52% said they believe that Trump has the best chance to win the general election.
The “Outnumbered” panel – Steve Hayes, Andrea Tantaros, Melissa Francis, Katie Pavlich and Kennedy – weighed in on what’s driving Trump’s tremendous success in the polls.
Hayes said Trump may not be great at giving facts, but he is providing voters with “clarity” and strong positions when it comes to issues like ISIS, national security and illegal immigration.
He added that after the San Bernardino attack, another bump in the polls seems likely for Trump, similar to what occurred after the Nov. 13 Paris terror attacks.
Tantaros said instead of following the news cycle, the news cycle seems to be repeatedly following Trump.
She noted, for example, that right after Trump’s forceful vow to build a wall along the Mexican border, the Kate Steinle murder happened.
Watch the full discussion above and let us know what you think about what’s driving Trump’s big lead.
