Syria in last 24 Hours: Air Force Destroys ISIL’s Military Positions in Deir Ezzur

The Syrian air force pounded the military positions and gathering centers of the Takfiri terrorists in Deir Ezzur province, inflicting heavy losses on them.

Meantime, the Syrian army and popular forces continued their military advances in other parts of Syria, including Aleppo and Homs, over past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in Syria’s key provinces.

Deir Ezzur

The Syrian Air Force and Army’s artillery units targeted heavily the ISIL strongholds in part of a strategic district in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur, claiming the lives of several terrorists.

The Syrian fighter jets bombed the ISIL positions in al-Roshdiyeh district, which inflicted major damage on the terrorist group’s military equipment.

The Syrian artillery units, for their part, opened fire at the ISIL strongholds in al-Roshdiyeh, which ended in the killing or wounding of dozens of the terrorists.

Reports said earlier today that the ISIL suffered a heavy death toll and its military vehicles sustained major damage in the Syrian air fleets’ combat sorties over its strongholds in the Eastern part of Deir Ezzur province.

The Syrian fighter jets bombed the ISIL concentration centers near the villages of al-Mura’yeh and al-Jafrah, which ended in the killing or wounding of tens of the terrorists.

The ISIL’s machinegun-equipped vehicles were also destroyed in the attack in large scale.

Aleppo

The Syrian Army announced that its troops engaged in heavy fighting with the terrorists of al-Nusra Front in a key neighborhood of the Northern city of Aleppo and inflicted major losses on the terrorists.

“The strongholds of al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front in the neighborhood of al-Lairamoun came under attacks of the Syrian army, which left several militants killed or wounded and destroyed their military vehicles and mortar-launching pads,” the army said.

In the meantime, the Syrian warplanes carried out over 60 combat sorties over the ISIL positions in the Northern and Eastern parts of the province and faced the terrorists a heavy death toll.

Also, the Syrian Army forces repulsed ISIL’s assault on their positions in Southern Aleppo and killed or injured a number of militants, a military source said.

“The ISIL militants in an attempt to prevail over army positions East of Khanaser attacked the region, however, the Syrian Army troops fended off the attack and killed several fighters,” the source said.

The source added that ISIL militants conducted an immense attack in Kanasser region, but the attack ended in another defeat for the militant group as the army forces destroyed several ISIL heavily-armed pick-up truck vehicles and defused some explosive devices left by the militants in the region.

Homs

The Syrian Army aircraft carried out several combat flights over the ISIL positions in the Eastern and Northeastern parts of the recently liberated city of Palmyra (Tadmur) and targeted them heavily.

The ISIL gathering centers near the villages of Arak, Bardeh and al-Sukhneh came under the heavy strikes of the Syrian warplanes, which inflicted major damage on the militants’ military hardware and vehicles.

The ISIL also sustained a heavy death toll in the air raids.

Meantime, the Syrian Army and fighter jets targeted the ISIL concentration centers near the recently-liberated city of Palmyra (Tadmur) and pinned the terrorists down behind their lines of defense.

The Syrian army troops stormed the ISIL positions in the Northern and Eastern sides of Palmyra, which not only claimed the lives of several terrorists but inflicted major damage on their military hardware.

The Syrian army’s aircraft also pounded the ISIL lines of defense near the bridge 550 in al-Amariyeh region, which left tens of the terrorists dead or wounded.

Damascus

The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces, in a rapid counter-attack, forced the ISIL terrorists to retreat from more territories near al-Dumeir airbase after leaving behind tens of dead and wounded members.

The Syrian government forces, who had successfully fended off the ISIL attack on al-Dumeir airbase, stormed the terrorist group and liberated the hilltop of Tilal Kassarat Abu Al-Shamat and its nearby Quarry.

Currently, the ISIL has deployed its forces 3 km North of the al-Dumeir Military Airbase; however, this is not as close as it seems because there is a whole mountain blocking the terrorist group from this military airport.

Sweida

Concentration centers of the ISIL terrorist group in the Northeastern part of Sweida province were heavily pounded in the Syrian Army troops’ fresh round of offensives.

The Syrian army and the popular forces stormed the ISIL positions near the village of Rajm al-Dawlwh, which ended in the killing or injuring of several terrorists.

Damascus skirts transition talk as Aleppo clashes intensify

Syria’s chief government negotiator sought on Friday to steer a new round of peace talks away from the political transition that U.N. mediators hope to promote, as increased fighting near Aleppo threatened to undermine a shaky truce. Bashar Ja’afari said his focus was to submit amendments to a framework document for the talks, prompting accusations from the head of the opposition negotiating team that Damascus was “not serious” about seeking a political solution to the five-year conflict. The Syrian government, buoyed by Russian and Iranian military support, arrived in Geneva six days after U.N. mediator Staffan de Mistura had hoped to begin negotiations.

The previous round of indirect talks ended on March 24, with de Mistura issuing a document on 12 guiding principles and vowing to shift the focus to a political transition, which the camp of President Bashar al-Assad has refused to discuss. After almost two hours with de Mistura, Ja’afari told reporters that he had given the U.N. envoy amendments to his document and would wait for him and his team to “study in-depth” the paper over the weekend and submit it to other groups. “We will once again discuss our proposal the next time we will meet on Monday,” he said. Ja’afari declined to answer questions, and de Mistura canceled a planned news briefing.

‘DIVORCED FROM REALITY’

The main opposition delegation, the High Negotiations Committee, has been in Geneva for two days. After meeting de Mistura on Friday it said the push on Aleppo by forces loyal to Assad showed the government did not want to negotiate a peace deal. “Today, as usual, the regime … is sending a strong message that it doesn’t want a political solution, but a military solution that will bring destruction to the whole country,” said team head Asaad al-Zoubi, referring to intensified fighting in the northern city. He said the government amendments made to de Mistura earlier in the day highlighted Damascus was “not serious about the political solution” and “divorced from reality.” The opposition told Reuters on Thursday that it was willing to share seats on a transitional governing body with members of Syria’s government, but Assad must leave power and it was now time to discuss a transition.

Assad has rejected the idea of a transitional governing body, saying instead he could broaden the government to include what he described as opposition and independent figures. Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said Assad’s future was not up for negotiation in Geneva or elsewhere, Russia’s TASS news agency quoted him as saying in Damascus. A senior Western diplomat close to the talks said it was clear that Syria’s government had no intention of negotiating in good faith. “The regime is doing everything it can to kill the negotiations,” the diplomat said. “If there was one moment when it shouldn’t launch an offensive (in the Aleppo region) then it really shouldn’t be the day before the government delegation arrives in Geneva.”
