Breaking: Tebow Makes Stunning Announcement About Politics
Being a Jacksonville, Florida Resident, which happens to be the second largest city in square milage on the planet, one of the subsections is Ponte Vedra Beach. For any golfers out there, that is where TPC Sawgrass is located with the famous island green on Hole 17. It also happens to be the portion of town Tim Tebow comes from.
Having been born and raised until the age of 18 in Northern New Jersey, college football just wan’t a religion up there like it is in Florida, and as such, I never caught Tebow-Fever. I will say this, if people are trying to get him to run in Republican Rep. Ander Crenshaw’s Congressional seat, the kid has my vote. I realize Congress and the President only consist of 2 out of 536 people, but if one is immune to charms of money, and one is immune to charms of sex, that’s two better than we’ve done the last 40 years. Where do I get a lawn sign?
Voters in northeast Florida were stunned recently by the sudden announcement from long-serving Republican Rep. Ander Crenshaw that he would be retiring at the end of this term and would not be seeking re-election.
The heart of the reliably Republican 4th District represented by the 71-year-old Crenshaw is the city of Jacksonville, and now one of that city’s well-known residents has been floated as a possible successor to the retiring representative, according to The Washington Times.
That famous resident is none other than former NFL star and Heisman Trophy-winning University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
The speculation of his run for office came largely from comments he made in an interview during his annual Tim Tebow Foundation golf tournament a couple of weeks ago, in which he stated that the idea of his entering politics was “intriguing.”
“I don’t know at this time in my life,” Tebow told the hosts of Fox & Friends. “If there’s a chance you can make a difference someday at something, then that would be intriguing.”
Conservative-leaning website Red Alert Politics immediately started a “Draft Tebow” movement to garner support for a potential run, saying that Tebow is “uniquely qualified to be a Florida congressman.”
“Tebow would never be lost in the crowd, and this would give him an opportunity to lead on issues he is already leading on in his life: fighting poverty, defending homeschoolers, and making traditional values cool again,” it proclaimed.
Of course there are other, more traditional potential candidates being floated for the congressional seat as well, such as a former mayor and former sheriff.
If Tebow is seriously considering running in the August 30 primary for the soon-to-be-vacant slot in Congress, he has until the filing deadline of June 24 to make his mind up.
Despite his up-and-down and too short NFL career, Tebow remains hugely popular with many across the country, but particularly so in Florida. The unashamedly outspoken Christian and all-around good guy would likely have little trouble getting elected to Congress, if he was truly determined to do so.
