(Before It's News)

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky. smiles while answering a reporter's question at a news conference following a closed-door policy meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016. The Senate will take no action on anyone President Barack Obama nominates to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, Senator McConnell said as nearly all Republicans rallied behind his calls to leave the seat vacant for the next president to fill. His announcement came after Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee ruled out any hearing for an Obama pick. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

If there is anything, anything at all, enjoyable about this year’s election it is watching pustulent lumps, like Mitch McConnell, twist and turn as their preferred candidate, Donald Trump, makes their lives miserable while destroying everything they professed to stand for. This past weekend, McConnell was humiliated in an appearance on Meet the Press when he could neither deny nor admit that Donald Trump’s attacks on Judge Gonzalo Curiel were racist.

Now there is this, by way of BuzzFeed (no it is not a cat video or sex advice):

Yesterday evening, McConnell was interviewed by Jon-David Wells of the Wells Report. McConnell had this to say about the 2016 election:

Asked on Monday if the general election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was a “lesser of two evils election,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell answered yes.

“Well, it just is,” McConnell said on the Wells Report on 660AM. “That’s an honest answer. This is a choice that many Americans are not happy with. But it is the choice.”

Earlier in the interview, McConnell criticized Trump for alienating Hispanic voters.

“I don’t think writing them off is smart politics,” said McConnell. “We saw what the Goldwater vote against the civil rights bill of 1964 did for Republicans with African-Americans. I’d hate to see that happen with Latinos.”

Not to put too fine a point on it, the GOP had a signal opportunity this year. The nation is fed up with Obama. They loathe Hillary. The GOP fielded 17 candidate, the group was not large in number but the quality of the candidates was the highest since 1980. What happened? McConnell and his ilk saw too many committed conservatives in the crowd that were likely to upset the slop trough and refused to show any leadership whatsoever. And the populist tsunami that is carrying Trump forward? Well, that is powered by the feeling so betrayal and abandonment that rank and file GOP voters feel after the flaccid and ineffectual way McConnell managed the GOP caucus as minority and, especially, as majority leader.

We are forced into a “lesser of two evils election” by the actions and duplicity of McConnell. He has no reason to complain.

(This is only because I love the movie)
