Shock Poll: Hillary Clinton Is Competitive In South Carolina
Granted, this is a PPP poll and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt. But once you dig into the numbers it becomes a little more clear why these numbers look the way they do. You’ve likely heard the phrase, “Trump is changing the map.” He sure is. Early on the talk was Trump perhaps winning Pennsylvania and actually making plays for states like New York, his home state.
Instead, he is changing the map for the worse. Much worse. It’s bad to see Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump in the red state of Georgia (in multiple polls) where Romney won by 8 points but now, this poll from PPP is showing she is competitive in the deep red state of South Carolina , where Romney won by 10 points.
PPP’s newest South Carolina poll finds that the state is trending toward being competitive in the Presidential race this year, just like in neighboring Georgia. Donald Trump has only a 2 point lead with 41% to 39% for Hillary Clinton, 5% for Gary Johnson, and 2% for Jill Stein.
The closeness is a function of Democrats being a lot happier with their party’s candidate than Republicans are with theirs. Clinton is winning 84% of the Democratic vote, compared to Trump’s 77% of the Republican vote. Although neither candidate is well liked by voters in the state Trump’s favorability, at 38% positive and 56% negative, comes in slightly worse than Clinton’s at 38/55.
This election is slowly becoming a disaster for Donald Trump. Sean Hannity can whine all he wants about #NeverTrump and point the finger of blame at them. Trump is losing in Georgia and and down by 8 in the RCP average because he’s a lousy candidate running a lousy campaign. He’s constantly shooting himself in the foot and he can’t seem to go a day without something ridiculously stupid.
We need to see some more polling data out of South Carolina to confirm these numbers but it’s important to keep in mind this would be part of a larger trend.
