Republican Congressman Jim Jordan Says FBI Director Did Not Do ‘The Right Thing’

(Before It's News)

Last week FBI Director James Comey dropped a bomb on the presidential race by reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified emails. Making the move less than two weeks before election day naturally has Democrats in an uproar but Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is critical of Comey as well.

Comey sent a letter to Congress announcing that new evidence necessitated the reopening of the case.

Hello, October surprise! It looks like the FBI has decided to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server scandal. Frank Thorp at NBC took to Twitter and dropped the letter from FBI Director James Comey to Congress. Comey explains that due to “recent developments” he would like to “supplement his testimony”, saying the FBI had recently come across emails  that seemed “pertinent to the investigation.”

In a radio appearance with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, Jordan said that in writing that letter to Congress so close to the election “was probably not the right thing for Comey to do.”

Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH): I think this was probably not the right thing for Comey to do… To come out this close to an election.

I actually agree. I think this was probably not the right thing for Comey to do, the protocol here, to come out this close to an election but this whole case has been mishandled and now it is what it is. So he probably felt in light of what he did before he had to bring this out. Quite frankly, because he had done the press conference and all the things he had before he probably did have to send a letter to Congress like he did last week. But I would argue all of this has been wrong from the get go in the way it’s been handled.

That’s the problem with politics in general lately. After so many bad decisions have been made, every choice becomes a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Bad moves in the past often prevent the possibility of good moves in the future. 2016 has seen the perfect storm of bad moves.

Jordan is the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
