I recently watched a video that was filmed at this this years shot show where Jerry Miculek set a new world record and I was so amazed and impressed and just wow! I saw a photo of him from back in the 80’s losing a shootoff wearing a ringer tshirt. Yeah, he Jerry is ringer all right. I just dropped cash on a brand new TechWearUSA jersey but…
Within the realm of USPSA hit factor scoring system Jerry’s incredible world record truly proved the point that my transitions between trigger pulls are my enemy and are avoided at all costs. Those spaces in time within a stage run where I am not shooting means that I am not scoring. As time passes by, so do my points. As my points go down, well the further down the ranking order I go and the least amount of product or company exposure I generate.
To practice transitions I go out to my local practice facility and I run this world record stage that Jerry built. I will also tell you how to practice this drill at home right after I share the drill with you so please keep reading for the practice drill.
You will need 1 target stand, 3 cardboard targets, a staple gun, a shot timer, tape. You staple three cardboard targets up in a row and then stand back a few yards. Have your rifle or shotgun at low ready or your pistol holstered and at the buzzer shoot the center target 4 times in the chest, then shoot each target in the head area twice. 10 shots total.
Now before I go out to my local practice facility, here is the drill that I do at home. I use a shot timer app or use an actual shot timer that can be programmed for par time. Set my par time to 2 seconds. Then set it to repeat, a lot. Setup some cardboard targets in my practice area and get after it.
