Here in the early days of 2011, a quick glance around the world presents enormous fodder for a whole string of alarmist articles addressing a myriad of disasters and catastrophes.

From a submerged Australia with record setting high temperatures, a frozen Europe, inexplicable events such as huge flocks of birds falling from the skies, curious fish die-off’s and any number of likewise unusual events – 2011 hold the promise of more shock and awe for the senses. As much as 2008, 09 and 10 provided eyebrow flipping life altering change, 2011 may well make those years seem like a survival cakewalk.

I am resisting the temptation to write a whole slew of articles each addressing a particular calamity type–for me that seems like obsessing and focusing on an individual erupting pimple rather than backing away and noticing that the human landscape has a bad rash, one that seems to be getting worse as our solar circuit completes a full rotation around the periphery of out galaxy.

Let it suffice that life altering change is notable and noticeable and is trending ever upwards rather than downwards. It is the first time that I have experienced extreme Solar change, terrestrial change and socioeconomic change simultaneously. One or two out of three has been the norm across my short six plus decades upon the planet.

I have friends that tease me a little by asking if anything is happening yet. I can understand their cynicism towards my penchant for advocation of situational awareness and mental preparation for possible local sudden change–believing that forewarned is forearmed and personal well-being can be protected, by degree, should upsetting events occur. As it is,  I happen to reside in a region that by and large has escaped any trauma, even the economic travesty which afflicted the rest of the world, I suppose if one is not a victim then it would appear that nothing much has changed in the past few years. Unfortunately in the past few years, millions upon millions of folks have been impacted by various calamities around the world so my position remains as, “But by the grace of god go I.”

In any event, my main point remains, we should periodically rise to higher altitudes of observation and recognize the entire malady rather than focus upon each disaster incident as though it were isolated and somewhat unusual, trends clearly show we are in the initial stages of an ongoing extreme change process and would be wise to acknowledge that fact.

2010 was horrendous, I suspect 2011 will pale it in comparison.

If anyone asks, “What about hope?”

What about it?

Stay tuned…
