(Before It's News)

If there were any staunch conservatives who have remained skeptical of President Donald Trump’s claimed pro-life stance, their worries should have been put to rest by one of the first executive orders he signed on Monday.

Sitting in the Oval Office, Trump signed an order reinstating a ban on U.S. taxpayer money being used to promote or provide abortion services in foreign nations by non-governmental organizations, according to Politico.

The ban, which is known as the “Mexico City Policy,” was issued on the day after the 44th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion procedures across America.

CBS News reported that the Mexico City Policy, so named for the 1984 United Nations conference during which it was announced, was first implemented by former President Ronald Reagan and continued under his successor, George H.W. Bush.

The policy was revoked in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, but reinstated by George W. Bush in 2001, only to be rescinded once again by Barack Obama when he took office in 2009.

The original policy stated that any non-governmental organization in a foreign country that wished to receive any American government funding “would neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations.”

When Bush reinstated the policy in 2001, he said, “It is my conviction that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions or advocate or actively promote abortion, either here or abroad.”

Both Clinton and Obama had called the anti-abortion measure “excessively broad” and “unwarranted” in revoking it.

According to The Washington Post, Trump’s re-implementation of the policy means that nonprofit groups working in foreign countries will have to decide whether they want to either continue to receive federal funding from U.S. taxpayers or continue to promote abortion as “family-planning” counseling, as they will no longer be able to do both.

We, of course, are fully supportive of this move, and agree with President Bush’s assessment that taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for abortions, not here at home and most certainly not in foreign nations.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter to make sure everyone knows that major pro-life move that Trump made with one of his first executive orders.
