(Before It's News)

Many people who have office jobs simply do not want to use their free time after work to exercise, because they feel too tired and stressed out after having a long and hard day. They want to just go home, get in their comfy clothes and eat something nice and comforting. Compared to people who have jobs that require movement, working at a desk can leave you feeling frustrated because you simply don’t get to move around at all. Staying healthy at work is important, so here are a couple of tips on how you can achieve that.

Avoid the Snacks

One of the biggest reason for weight gain while at work are those sneaky snacks. If you keep a cookie jar by your desk, get rid of it, and if the staff kitchen has any naughty treats, try to avoid them as much as you can. You can make your own healthy snacks and keep them at your desk for when you’re feeling hungry. We know it can be hard, but try to resist the temptation of taking a bar of chocolate or any other sweet form your co-workers. Like they say, out of sight, out of mind. Bring freshly chopped fruit to work or make the effort and go out and have a healthy lunch and some fresh air.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is essential for everyone, no matter who they are and what they do, but it is especially important for those who work in office jobs. You can easily forget to drink water when you are all caught up in your work, but this can lead to you becoming dehydrated. If you regularly drink water, you can avoid dehydration, which is the main culprit in tricking you into thinking you are hungry. You can set goals for your water intake, take a few bottles and set yourself to finish them by the end of your workday.

Stand Up

This seems like an easy and the obvious answer, but for many people, this is too hard to accomplish when they feel flat out every day. No matter how good your intentions are, emails, deadlines and other priorities simply get in the way. Many people underestimate how important it is to move around, especially if you have noticed the first symptoms of vein disease and back pain. Moving will help you clear your head and get your focus back and you will burn more calories than you would if you constantly sit down. So, take more bathroom breaks, stand up while making phone calls, and use the stairs instead of the elevator.

Sneak In Some Exercises at the Workplace

You may ask how, but this is easier than you thought, even in an office environment. Some of these exercises may seem too easy and simple, but you will be surprised with the results. Like we said, stairs instead of elevator, and if your workplace has no elevators, then run up the stairs and then down, repeating it at least twice, thus getting a good workout before you settle at your desk. On your way to the toilet, bathroom or in your cubicle, you can do a couple of squats, and if you generally drive your car when you go out for lunch, try walking. You can also park your car a little further from the entrance and walk a little. Try recruiting a co-worker from the office and make this whole experience way more fun.

Spending those long hours in the office can really mess up your whole schedule, so make sure you find time to get organized. You can choose a couple of days in a week to engage in physical activity, doing the exercises that you enjoy the most. Create a plan and stick to it, because sometimes, the best way to relieve after a stressful day at the office is to sweat it all out. Working from 9 to 5 can be tiring, hard and stressful, and you can feel like your health is just slipping. So, implement these small changes into your everyday routine, and you will see how easily you can set yourself up for success.
