(Before It's News)

In the latest findings from ComScore, the research company has offered reassuring image of the virtual world. Though the report primarily focuses on the “State of the U.S. Internet”, it offers insights which bear global implications. Along with the internet, ComScore has also detailed trends across mobile, online advertising and e-commerce.

According to ComScore, the world is increasingly going online & the US is rapidly being left behind in terms of users. Our earlier finding corroborates this. Interestingly, Asia-Pacific constitute about half of the online population. Looks like the online shoppers form a growing group!

In terms of the latest online craze of Social Networking, Facebook may be sitting at the top with a Billion users, but Pinterest, which offers social networking through images has posted an mind boggling growth of 4377+% within just a year! In comparison Twitter managed a growth rate of 58% LinkedIn 67%. Facebook could manage only 4%. Though Pinterest’s growth is phenomenal, newer offerings by Facebook coupled with its user base have ensured brands still prefer it for majority of advertising. However, with Facebook going through a rough patch, its glory days could be numbered.

As for the E-Commerce scenario, ComScore predicts people will increasingly buy online. This has been evident with Amazon posting a 30% Year on Year (YoY) growth. However, the real reason is what ComScore dubs as ‘Showrooming’, wherein people browse through merchandise in a physical store & buy the same online for a lesser price. Walmart which is contemplating an Indian entry should closely study this behavior to increase its chances rather than only using Indians for software development.

The research firm also revealed a healthy growth of online video & advertisements built into them. However, it cautions that unless innovative techniques are not adopted, successful monetization will not be possible. With mobiles & smartphones being bought like crazy, ComScore could only repeat what Google had been feeling.

Is this phenomenal growth sustainable? Do share your views.
