The rumor has been around for some time but Comcast just confirmed it by launching its new its 305Mbps download / 65Mbps upload speed’s Xfinity Platinum internet service, effectively creating a high-end Broadband internet delivery service.
The news is both good and bad for consumers. It is good for consumers where the service will cover and they are not quite that much and maybe bad for other who will just have to wait until the product catchment area is expanded. For now, Comcast announced that it will be available for cities in the north east are of the United States which according to them are densely populated.
This is a far cry from the days when people will wail on finding out the Verizon’s FiOS did not cover their location as Comcast seems to have a single minded mission of providing real competition to Fiber-to-home services with break neck speed internet delivery service through cable.
Aside from this new platform, it announced maybe as some sort of appetizer to some regions that it will be doubling the speed of two tiers of its platform in certain regions at no additional cost to the consumer.
Subscribers to the Xfinity Blast! Now have their download speed doubled to up to 50Mbps while the Extreme 50 subscribers have their increased to up to 105Mbps.
Comparing the cost of its high-end Xfinity Platinum internet service to that of Verizon’s FiOS, it is actually some $90 more. Comcast is billing $300/month for its 305Mbps download/65Mbps upload Xfinity Platinum while Verizon is billing $90 less for its 300Mbps service.
They still have the data cap on so subscribers should not get so carried away as they might hit that cap sooner and would have to renew their plans.
