(Before It's News)

Online Travel Bookings have been a boon for businessmen and frequent travelers. Without having to worry about travel agents and lines, people could get confirmed tickets. Online Ticket Bookings picked up in India in the past few years and there have been many players like Yatra, MakeMyTrip and ClearTrip who have garnered up thousands of regular users. One such online travel giant, TripAdvisor, has announced a new Augmented Reality App in an attempt to differentiate themselves further.

TripAdvisor, which boasts of 75 million traveler reviews and opinions, have launched this AR Application exclusively for RIM’s Blackberry Smartphones. The app will allows BlackBerry customers worldwide to instantly access an immersive view of hotels, restaurants, and attractions listed on TripAdvisor on their smartphones.

Rory Kenny, Director of Mobile Partnerships for TripAdvisor said, “TripAdvisor Augmented Reality gives travelers a new and interactive way of looking at the world around them. The future potential of augmented reality is without limit, and we’re happy to help drive it forward by partnering with Wikitude.”

Here’s how to use the TripAdvisor AR App on your Blackberry devices:

1. Simply tap the TripAdvisor/Wikitude icon on the home screen to instantly view your surroundings through an Augmented Reality lens

2. Once a venue is chosen, users can quickly access detailed information about the location, including traveler-submitted reviews, average prices etc

3. The “Bring me there” option provides users with turn-by-turn directions to the desired destination

4. The app integrates with BlackBerry Messenger for simple sharing and connecting.

TripAdvisor have partnered with Augmented Reality Brand Wikitude to get the experience to Blackberry Devices. Wikitude CMO Andy Gstoll said,“Partnering with TripAdvisor on this all new app concept has been phenomenal and it shows how Wikitude can be utilized as a go-to-market platform. With this immersive AR experience, we are very excited to bring TripAdvisor’s valuable content to the BlackBerry user community”

Why TripAdvisor has decided to go with Blackberry over Android or iOS is something we cannot fathom, since the other two are way more dynamic and have faster growing user bases, but they must have had their reason. Any Blackberry device with OS7 or higher can enjoy this app from the Blackberry App World.
