Apple has long maintained a tight control over 3rd party accessories for their various hardware lines, especially iPods, iPads and iPhones. The upcoming new iPhone (and any other devices) which use the new dock connector will be no different. Because of the dramatic size reduction, adapters will be needed to keep older accessories usable with the new, smaller dock connector. But where Apple has typically been somewhat open to 3rd party support comes a new, even tighter level of control.
According to iLounge, Apple will exercise sole distribution rights to any and all 30-pin dock connector adapters. But don’t get too flustered. Unlike previous similar scenarios, pricing won’t actually be all that bad. A single 30-pin adapter will allegedly run $10 will a 3-pack will be $29. USB cables with new dock connector will set you back $19.99 a piece.
