For as long as the iPhone has lived, Apple has given it a fancy little home in their official iPhone dock. While the overall design has remained relatively unchanged and its feature set pretty much non-existent (except for holding your phone and pumping out audio/video signals), it’s something that many a iPhone users have come to appreciate. So when Apple’s iPhone 5 event came and went without any mention of a new dock for their latest phone, many tech pundits began to speculate that Apple was finally relinquishing iPhone dock manufacturing to 3rd parties fully.
A 9to5Mac reader asked Phil Schiller about the omission at the iPhone event and what was happening to the Apple made iPhone dock. His response – it’s dead. According to Schiller, “most people use docks use them with speaker or clock systems”.
So there you have it. Your iPhone 5 docking fix will need to come from someone other than Apple. Broken hearted, relived, indifferent?
