(Before It's News)

Datanet India, which is owned by ITes, has launched ElectionsInIndia.com. This site will provide constituency-wise election data for all parliamentary and assembly constituencies in India. The user has to pay a nominal membership fee to access the data.

The site will provide data – election results of urban, rural class as well as socio-economic data of districts – of all 543 parliamentary and 4120 state legislative assembly constituencies in India. The fact that all this massive data is available on one platform will be of great use to academic analysts as well election parties as they will be able to make inferences, chalk out visible patterns and use the data to better the electoral process and their standing in a particular constituency.

Datanet India has previously launched indiastat.com in 2000 and districtsofindia.com in 2010.The former site provides socio-economic statistical data about India and her states whereas the latter provides authentic socio-economic district level statistical information for the country.

Speaking on the launch Dr. R.K. Thukral, Director of the portal said, “As a whole, electioneering (in India) constitutes a network of election politics in contemporary India, and the election system has been the pillar of the Indian democratic regime. In a sense, elections form the essence of Indian democracy.”

While this is the only extensive election data site that is updated and running today, in 2011 Hiox India introduced indianballot.com. The site was designed to deliver live and complete report and results of State Assembly Election of India, 2011. Talking about taking the election data online, in 2011 the first online election happened in Gujarat. Soon after, the Chief Election Commissioner raised doubts about casting vote online and the whole process in general. It will probably take time to completely adopt online voting, but the fact that it has happened once is enough to give hope that it will happen again.

The fact that election data – that would otherwise be found only on paper and could be collected after submitting multiple requests is now available at the ease of a click is certainly a great sign towards achieving transparency and in some way strengthening the democratic process.
