Goibibo.com, the latest entrant to online travel bookings in India, has announced its monthly travel report which has been put together by analyzing consumer data generated by its platform and collecting key insights dealing with consumer behavior. This monthly report takes a look at the online hotel booking scenario in the country.
Their data says that 3-star hotel are the main drivers of the online hotel booking in the country with around 50%+ bookings being done in these hotels. The tariff slab for the 3 Star category falls within Rs. 1500 – 3500 per night. The reason behind this maybe because these hotels are affordable and secondly available. Many travellers are satisfied by the facilities provided by these hotels. Besides these there is also a comparison between hotels booked for leisure and those booked for business trips. More people booked hotels online for leisure (56.41%) as compared to Business (43.59%). The average price point of Leisure hotels was Rs.3099 per room per night and that if Business related stays was Rs. 3359 per night per room.
Bangalore is India’s top business destination which is followed by Mumbai. Hyderabad and Pune. Among the business travellers, Goibibo has found out that SME businessmen are driving more bookings compared to Corporates. About 80% of SMEs book their hotels online compared to 20% of the booking done by Corporates. SMEs are price-conscious and forever looking at value-for-money solutions whereas Corporates may not be worried about the price overmuch. Thus we can see that people are business people are hunting the Internet to get some very good deals in terms of hotels.
Ashish Kashyap, CEO of ibiboGroup spoke about the findings.
“Hotels is one of the fastest growing segment for Goibibo. There is a lot of headroom for growth in this segment with the ecosystems getting established.
