Olacabs, a year old startup which provides car rentals and point-to-point cab services, has announced a tie-up with MakeMyTrip, one of India’s biggest online travel booking solutions. The tie-up will provide MakeMyTrip customers with options to book Olacabs on a point-to-point destination basis in Mumbai, Bangalore and the Delhi-NCR region. This setup will result in considerable savings for users and a one-stop shop for travelers to sort out significant aspects of their journey.
The integration makes sense as there are services available in the country which manage many aspects of booking travel online but there is yet no integrated approach, resulting in users going to many different website to plan and book their travel. This partnership seems to be a benefit for both the users and Olacabs. MakeMyTrip’s users can easily book cabs from its website and Olacabs benefits from the access to MakeMyTrip’s considerable userbase. They are also providing a flat 10% discount on taxi fare of MakeMyTrip users if they use Olacabs for pick-up and drops from an airport in the mentioned cities.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO, Olacabs spoke about this development.
“We are currently in an accelerated expansion mode and are looking to increase our presence across the country. We will continue to look for strategic partnerships that have a good fit with the Ola brand and create access to high value customers. We are confident that the partnership with MakeMyTrip.com will be a win-win at both ends.”
Since its founding in January 2011, Olacabs has been busy with setting up their services in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi-NCR. Their use of technology is also remarkable. We reviewed their Android app some months back and it was a pleasant experience. The startup is relying heavily on technology like GPS, real time traffic alerts and demand analysis to deliver a good experience to their customers. This partnership is good step forward for the company. Being a ‘5 star’ provider on MakeMyTrip will definitely help their chances of converting more users to their service. In this sense, I feel Olacabs is like the Indian Uber. The company needs more partnerships like these so the users can be aware of their service. Many people in the Indian metros are hooked to their smartphones. Hailing a cab with a tap of a virtual button is a powerful demonstration of what is possible with adoption of technology by new Indian startups.
