A Year In The Making: Snapheal Is Still Doing Magic
It was almost a year ago that we first reviewed Snapheal and we came to the conclusion that major photo editing wasn’t for those with extensive Photoshop training. To manage major photo surgery, you don’t need all that skill in Photoshop, all you need is a ten dollar bill a few minutes. That is all it takes to make unwanted items in your pictures to just magically disappear. Magic is the keyword there, it is seriously magic, and it takes only a few seconds.
Macphun graced us with a prerelease copy of the 2.1 version of their popular Snapheal software and we’ve been going hard for the past week or so. Upon the 2.0 release back in September, we’ve been nothing but impressed with the strides they have made to make this one of the best photo editing suites around. With this 2.1 release they’ve stepped up their game and seriously given Adobe a run for their money.
With the latest version of Snapheal, the two images below took each under 90 seconds to complete. It isn’t the perfect result, but that is because I did it as fast as I possibly could. One of the biggest speed enhancements Macphun has included is the ability to use the Lasso tool to select the areas and items you want gone. No longer do you have to paint your way through magically making items disappear, easily select the items precisely and hit the glorious ‘Erase’ button.
Most of these enhancements and upgrades to the app came with the 2.0 release we told you about a couple months ago, but the 2.1 is the first release we decided to dissect it and see how it is has evolved after a year. With Retina display support, 3X speed upgrade for erasing and the new tools for erasing, Snapheal makes major edits as simple as 1, 2, 3. The UI has been majorly overhauled as well, making it easier to navigate and much more user friendly.
A year later, the major upgrades I found to be the most notable was the speed improvements. I mentioned the issues with speed last December, and with the 2.0 and 2.1 release, this wasn’t at all an issue. Even after selecting a substantial area, no lag came over my computer. The UI was also a huge win for me over the 1.0 version. It’s so much faster to navigate between Erasing options as well as all of the other tools at your disposal.
You can do so much with Snapheal, from minor removals to a gigantic skyline altering building. Nothing is too large for this magical app, nothing. For those of you that snap pictures and happen to notice junk you don’t want littering your Facebook page, the Snapheal app is your best friend in removing all the unwanted crap. I can’t recommend this app enough.
