iBolt & others need your help…car-dock mode missing in latest Android versions

(Before It's News)

You may be aware that here at Clove we range several car docks for varying devices that can be switched into car mode, to make it more user friendly and safer for use when in a vehicle.

One example of a dock like this is the iBolt vehicle dock for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

However recent updates to Android have disabled the android.dock_home which is necessary for manufacturers of devices and cradles to take advantage of these car features.

Here is a bit of background:

When JB “pre-release” versions were reported to not have the aux-out and car-mode “turned on” in their kernels iBolt were not overly concerned as pre-release stuff many times is very incomplete. However, we could not believe (and neither could some Operators) when the official Polish, Swedish and now UK releases are STILL missing the support for these two functions.

iBolt’s understanding is that it would be extremely easy for Samsung to fix this as they only need to “turn them on” in the Kernel and send out an update.

The whole thing does not make any sense, especially as Samsung must activate these two functions when releasing the JB for Note 1 and 2 as they are officially supported by the OEM car-dock. It is also a great feature for Samsung so iBolt believe they simply didn’t have an official OEM dock for the S 3 to measure against and it was not on the “checklist”. Here’s their internal developers conclusion, see technical description

There’s a number of threads on this issue in all popular forums. Just search for “iBOLT Jellybean” and you will run across many. Here’s some of the most interesting:
Galaxy Infuse OEM dock works with S3 but not with JB
Jellybean and iBOLT Docking station

As we are sure you can imagine, even if you are not a regular user of your phone in the car, this is quite an important feature and it is a real shame that it has been disabled in the neweer versions of Android.  In fact, we currently have no stock of the S3 car dock from iBolt for this very reason, the lack of support renders their product almost useless.

We and iBolt are asking for your support to help raise this issue.  Please CLICK HERE (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39765&q=car%20dock&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars)  to view the issue ticket with Google and hopefully resolve the issue.

Thank you.
